چکیده

We study the effect of magnetic field and geometric confinement on excitons confined to a quantum ring. We use analytical matrix elements of the Coulomb interaction and diagonalize numerically the effective-mass Hamiltonian of the problem. To explore the role of different boundary conditions, we investigate the quantum ring structure with a parabolic confinement potential, which allows the wavefunctions to be expressed in terms of center of mass and relative degrees of freedom of the exciton. On the other hand, wavefunctions expressed in terms of Bessel functions for electron and hole are used for a hard-wall confinement potential. The binding energy and electron-hole separation of the exciton are calculated as function of the width of the ring and the strength of a external magnetic field. The linear optical susceptibility as a function of magnetic fields is also discussed. We explore the Coulomb electron-hole correlation and magnetic confinement for several ring width and size combinations. The Aharanov-Bohm oscillations of exciton characteristics predicted for one-dimensional rings are found to not be present in these

Impurity effects on the Aharonov-Bohm optical signatures of neutral quantum-ring magnetoexcitons

We study the role of impurity scattering on the photoluminescence (PL) emission of polarized magnetoexcitons. We consider systems where both the electron and hole are confined on a ring structure (quantum rings) as well as on a type-II quantum dot. Despite their neutral character, excitons exhibit strong modulation of energy and oscillator strength in the presence of magnetic fields. Scattering...

Quasi-two-dimensional excitons in finite magnetic fields

We present a theoretical and experimental investigation of the effects of a magnetic field on quasi-twodimensional excitons. We calculate the internal structures and dispersion relations of spatially direct and indirect excitons in single and coupled quantum wells in a magnetic field perpendicular to the well plane. We find a sharp transition from a hydrogenlike exciton to a magnetoexciton with...

Combined effects of pressure, temperature, and magnetic field on the ground state of donor impurities in a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum heterostructure

In the present work, the exact diagonalization method had been implemented to calculate the ground state energy of shallow donor impurity located at finite distance along the growth axis in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure in the presence of a magnetic field taken to be along z direction. The impurity binding energy of the ground state had been calculated as a function of confining frequency and mag...

Anomalous transport and luminescence of indirect excitons in AlAs/GaAs coupled quantum wells as evidence for exciton condensation

Due to the long lifetime of indirect ~interwell! excitons, exciton condensation ~analogous to the BoseEinstein condensation of bosons! is expected to occur in coupled quantum wells ~CQW’s!. The critical conditions for the exciton condensation have been predicted to be strongly improved by high magnetic field perpendicular to the well plane. We present results of experimental study of transport ...

Theory of Quantum Well Excitons in Electric and Magnetic Fields

The effects of external electric and magnetic fields on excitons in GaAsIAlGaAs quantum wells have been calculated in the effective mass approximation. Recent experiments by Viiia et al. which identify exciton couplings induced by an electric field are satisfactorily explained by the effects of valence band mixing. The properties of magneto-excitons in quantum wells are also found to be charact...
